Hypoallergenic Dog Breeds
Hypoallergenic dog breeds, are those breeds that can be considered for those who suffer from allergies. People think that those who are sensitive to dogs are reacting to the dog hair. While shedding can contribute to allergies, often people are sensitive to substances in the dander (dead skin cells) and saliva.
All dogs produce dander to some degree. Some individuals will react to certain breeds and not to others. In the so called 'hypoallergenic dogs', the amount is so small that only a few individuals experience allergy symptoms when in contact with them. However, there is no such thing as a dog that is completely 100% hypoallergenic. We all react differently to certain breeds. The key is to find the breed you are not allergic to.
There are breeds are excellent choices such as Yorkshire terriers. This type of dog h as been around over 100
years. A lot of the newer mixed breeds do not make good choices due to the inconsistency of dander in the breeds. You are better off with a later generation mixed such as 5th or later
generation.
The best way to test if you are allergic to an animal is to sit in a car with them for 15 to 30 minutes and see what happens. This is simple but will help in the long run to determine what is the best type of dog for you. You do not want to get attached to an animal and realize you are allergic in the future. That can produce some upsetting circumstances in your life. I have a friend who is allergic to her dog and she has to keep him outside. The dog does not mind but she would rather have her dog indoors with her. This is how she copes with her problem. She also takes her allergy medicine to help deal with her problem.
